Responsibilities
As an Executive Member of the Leadership Team, counsel to the CEO, as well as Senior Manager for the finance & accounting Team, the CFO will be responsible for the following:
Provide Strategic Financial Planning & Strategic Guidance in Company Decisions
Engage in strategic planning and help influence the future direction of the company
Provide financial leadership to align business and finance strategy in support of long term growth goals
Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units & business unit leaders regarding budgeting, performance to budgets, short/long term objectives, as well as effective controls & utilization of financial resources
Stimulate and drive the timely execution of change in the company. Drive business improvement initiatives, process improvements, cost reductions, innovations, and M&A opportunities that add value
Ensure that financial/treasury needs are forecasted and banking arrangements are maintained
Provide transparency on success, failure, performance, and projections throughout the organization from drivers to the Executive Team through reporting and presentation.
Lead and manage the Finance & Accounting Functions
Protect the vital assets of the company by ensuring compliance with GAAP & IFRS accounting standards, along with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
Oversee the financial planning and analysis function
Provide oversight of the Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Risk/Middle Office, and Information Technology functions ensuring effectiveness, accuracy, and compliance
Oversee the Treasury function ensuring compliance with all bank covenants, effective negotiation of credit agreements, supplier credit lines, merchant services, 3rd party financial services agreements, and appropriate leverage of banking relationships.
Deliver development and training to key staff members and ensure appropriate succession in place.
Identify key metrics to measure and evaluate the financial/accounting processes and provide assistance to other areas of the business.
Monitor the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, and reports required by regulatory agencies.
Steward internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash management, inventory management, asset management, transaction controls, timely payment, and accurate accounting.
Support Operational Excellence
Utilize business intelligence to analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and improvements
Ensure operational excellence across all support functions by facilitating collaborative relationships with all Business Units and developing strong integration between functions.
Provide consulting and analysis to support growth of each business unit.
Guide & support BU leaders regarding financial analysis, strategic planning, and operational execution
Requirements
Outstanding Candidates for this Leadership role will bring the following attributes and skills:
At least 8 years of successful career progression and accomplishments across (1) operational improvement, (2) management & leadership, (3) finance, (4) accounting, and (5) risk management.
At least 5 years of recent, finance & accounting leadership experience within a privately or publicly owned, operationally intensive business within the energy sector
Demonstrated expertise in developing metrics to enhance decision making and profitability
Experience in supporting the development and management of an annual operating budget
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar discipline. CPA preferred.
Strong hands-on operational experience; must understand/lead multiple facets of the organization beyond finance
Experience in the controlling, accounting and/or finance function of an energy or commodity trading operation
Understanding of derivatives accounting and IFRS preferred.
Team-Oriented leader with strong development skills.
