Opportunity

Energy Recruiters has been retained by a leading refiner and specialty chemicals manufacturing company to support their search for a Senior Director, Operations Excellence (SDOE). This newly created role is a critical investment in the future and will drive continuous improvement in safe & reliable operations, asset stewardship, and economic optimization. The SDOE will be accountable for building and managing centralized support for a diverse manufacturing asset portfolio.  Your dual mission is to 1) develop/improve/maintain high-level management systems and close gaps across the manufacturing portfolio; and 2) provide subject matter expertise and troubleshooting support to the manufacturing sites.   In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Refining and Manufacturing Operations.

Primary Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Operations Excellence Leadership

Lead and support cross-functional teams at multiple operating sites to align site leaders, site management teams, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to drive operational excellence while serving as a role model and key champion for values.

Provide leadership, oversight, guidance, and expertise for Operations Excellence (OE) group.   Current Team members include subject matter experts (SMEs) for Process Engineering, Mechanical Integrity, Fuels Quality, and Procurement.   Future Team opportunities may include Rotating Equipment, Electrical Engineering, and/or Turnarounds.

Work with CEO, Executive Team, and Operations colleagues to build the appropriate processes and controls for safe, compliant, reliable, and profitable operations.

Provide subject matter expertise on operational issues across diversified manufacturing portfolio.

Progress all sites to close gaps within Operating Model.

Conduct an objective review of our Operating Model and make recommendations for improvement as part of continuous improvement efforts.

Conduct a capability assessment of the OE Team and develop recommendations for continued development and improvement.

Implement best practices to drive operating rigor and discipline.

Build operations capability across the organization via education, training, and support of field operations staff.

Troubleshoot operational issues across field operations.

Work with the Quality Director to move our quality processes from compliance to excellence for both our fuels and specialty product portfolios.

Successfully lead and earn the trust of largest operations asset, our people. Develop, motivate, and lead.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is required

15 years of overall operations experience within the oil refining industry.   Diverse experiences within international majors as well as independent refining companies considered a plus.

10 years of operations management experience in progressively more responsible roles, including experience as a Site/Plant Manager.

Strong risk management profile

Expert communication skills across a wide range of audiences ranging from front-line manufacturing personnel to board members.

Subject matter expertise in process engineering with technical capabilities to both troubleshoot and optimize unit operations and develop future business cases to reconfigure.

Technical acumen to examine existing operations and develop strategies to potentially reconfigure multiple sites to improve profitability.

Experience with CAPEX and Turnaround planning and execution.

Demonstrated experience in transforming operational performance.

Ability to travel up to 50% domestically across the US.

Planning, economics, and commercial experiences highly desired

Highly organized and ability to prioritize workload

Knowledge, experience, and skills to be an effective leader and the ability to manage, influence, mentor and create trust at all levels of the organization

Ability to develop and execute on a vision and tactical plans for Operations

Headroom/capability to develop and progress beyond the SDOE into a role of increased value to the organization
