Our Client, a highly respected and successful energy marketer, has engaged Energy Recruiters to support their search for a professional Sales Leader.   The Vice President of Sales is responsible for leading a team of high performing sales professionals across three core business segments: Wholesale, Retail, and Commercial / Industrial.  This role requires a unique combination of deep sales leadership skills as well as broad refined products supply knowledge beyond the sales discipline.

Responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities for this role include:

Design, implement, and manage sales strategies and tactics to achieve company sales, profitability, and other goals

Contribute to the strategic planning process with executive team to establish the overall vision for the organization

Build Sales strategy for increasing volume and margin from current and new customers

Uncover growth opportunities in current and new market segments and work with other department leaders to develop strategy and tactics to exploit

Review programs and performance directives to ensure short and long term sales goals are attained and adjust policies, procedures, and programs as necessary to achieve results

Develop processes to monitor daily execution of the daily supply & sales strategy along with the daily volume and margin performance

Hire, train, develop, and motivate sales team for greater efficiency and effectiveness

Hire, coach, mentor, train and manage Sales staff to succeed; assist individuals to attain established goals and directives

Build, develop and conduct training programs for sales team, expanding on selling techniques, customer care and petroleum industry knowledge

Provide effective motivation and support for Sales team to maximize the overall performance and promote job satisfaction.

Lead inter-departmental business process design, implementation, and ongoing management

Develop working methodologies with other executives in supply and operations as required to create/improve/optimize organizational processes and procedures

Work with other departments to streamline the order-to cash procedures

Work closely with VP of Supply & Trading to develop and execute price risk management programs to increase margin and customer retention

Manage executive-level relationships with the largest accounts and trade organizations

Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with large commercial and industrial customers

Represent the company in trade organizations for the petroleum industry as well as organizations that support customers' industries

 

Qualifications & Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in driving results.  He/She will possess the ability to apply analytical, strategic, and tactical thinking to the sales process and have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with other functional Teams.  A bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Economics, Finance, Marketing or related field is required and an MBA is preferred.

10 or more years of senior management experience leading a sales Team in the transportation fuels marketing industry

Strong working knowledge of supply, operations and finance aspects of refined products marketing as well as trading and refining concepts

Demonstrated success in profitable growth within Wholesale, Retail, and Commercial & Industrial business segments

Excellent strategy, planning and performance metrics development and tracking skills

Solid understanding of market and customer segmentation, key drivers and levers of successful brand building and customer acquisition and a record of successfully marketing a company's core service platforms

Demonstrated track record of successfully leading a high-energy sales team where sales people are provided with the tools/systems needed to be effective and held accountable for results

Effective communication, presentation and negotiating skills

Familiarity with Salesforce.com or other CRM software is preferred

Excellent leadership skills and personal integrity

Highly motivated, energetic individual with an entrepreneurial mindset
