Energy Recruiters has partnered with a privately held fuel distributor to support their search for a Fuel Excise Tax Manager. The position is responsible for timely and accurate filing of excise, sales, and other business tax returns in a multi-state environment.
Based on Experience
Timely and accurate preparation, filing, and payment of monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel excise, IFTA, and other tax returns and compliance reporting for federal and state authorities.
Timely and accurate preparation, filing, and payment of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales/use, franchise, property and other tax returns and compliance reporting for state and county/parish authorities.
Maintain up to date and accurate registrations for federal, state, county and local tax authorities.
Timely file and pay all licenses, permits, bonds, miscellaneous and annual reports as required.
Research, interpret and apply federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Maintain corporate systems and operating procedures to ensure compliance with current tax regulations.
Respond efficiently to jurisdictional inquiries/requests and log all correspondence appropriately
Perform reconciliations between the general ledger and tax returns before filing to ensure accuracy. Prepare journal entries and other pre/post filing tasks to support accurate and timely closing procedures.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
3-5 years of experience in excise and sales/use tax matters
Previous experience with the petroleum products industry a plus
Previous experience with Ascend Tax Module a plus
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
Ability to work independently with strong attention to details
Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Strong organization skills and ability to multitask
