Energy Recruiters has been engaged to support the search for a Transportation Business Manager.   Our Client's business involves company owned retail, an extensive dealer network, and commercial/industrial customers.

Team

You will support a team of 40+ employees and have accountability for business units including:

  • Transportation Fleet and the Drivers
  • Company Fleet Maintenance Service Center
  • Dispatch Team
  • Terminals

 

Primary Objectives:

  • Own the day-to-day “hands-on” strategic direction, oversight and implementation for all company refined Transport & logistics
  • Continual reinforcement of a strong safety culture and DOT compliance
  • Maximize profitability and customer satisfaction through achieving best-in-class efficiency, operational execution, utilization, and team engagement
  • Own the budgeting & financial planning activities for the entire Transportation Department while analyzing the financial performance of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Develops policies, programs and procedures for our transportation systems & other terminal operations and submits recommendations for development of and compliance with, transportation policies, procedures and programs 
  • Maximizes efficiencies while ensuring the cost, quality and delivery are met while managing the team and carrier performance. Overall responsibility for logistics, hiring, coaching & separation of drivers, logistics team

 

Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the strategic and day to day direction of Logistics, Maintenance, Dispatch and Transport drivers
  • Manage a fleet of over 30 company vehicles to maximize logistic efficiencies
  • Drive profitability by scaling the business in its areas of operation
  • Full P & L responsibility for the transportation department budget and cost control
  • Responsibility for ensuring routes are scheduled properly and efficiently for over 500+ clients
  • Negotiate with common carriers to establish backhauls at favorable rates; manage the coordination of the line-hauls to ensure timely uploading
  • Carries out supervisory responsibly in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
  • Ensure that the transportation department is managed in the safest, most efficient and cost-effective method possible while following, monitoring and enforcing all DOT Compliance standards and working with the mechanics to ensure trucks are in good working condition
  • Responds to on-call issues/spills/accidents
  • Remain current on industry trends and provide strategic recommendations to management that keep Company on the “cutting edge”
  • Regularly visit, supervise and inspect all terminals
  • Assess and determine driver requirements in conjunction with ongoing dispatch, sales & marketing, and senior management objectives
  • Act as required to recruit and retain top talent to build a quality driver pool
  • Address employee personnel matters, and as deemed necessary, undertake disciplinary measures to achieve desirable resolutions
  • In addition to the above items, you will be a senior participant and contributor in all other areas of the company

 

Requirements and Skills

Outstanding Candidates for this Leadership role will bring the following attributes and skills:

  • Documented accomplishments in leadership for petroleum transport logistics & distribution leading teams of 30+ trucks
  • Previous P & L responsibility and experience in supporting the development and management of an annual operating budget
  • Proven track record of soliciting new business and scaling operations
  • Energetic, collaborative, and inspirational leadership style
  • Successful track record of individual/Team development, training, and change management
  • Entrepreneurial attitude with a history of initiating process improvements in logistics & distribution
  • Passion for day to day execution, operational excellence, and motivating front line personnel. Willing to travel approx. 20% into the field
