This Executive opportunity is a strategic leadership role responsible for successful outcomes across the business.   Beyond leading the finance and accounting discipline, you will serve as a key strategic partner to the executive team playing a critical role in driving organizational performance.  As a senior strategic partner to both the Chief Executive Officer and President, you will collaborate closely with senior executive, financial, information technology, and human resource leaders to secure the best possible big team wins and chart a path for sustainable, scalable growth.

Change Management: Plan, lead and manage change initiatives, ensuring clear communication, effective transitions and minimal disruption. Communicate the benefits of changes clearly and help managers effectively lead their Team members in adapting to new processes and systems.

Operating Partner Accountabilities

Partner with business unit leaders to understand their profit centers, identifying opportunities for expansion as well as areas in need of reorganization or divestment.

Work with the Chief Executive Officer, President, and other senior executives to prepare and establish priorities for the planning process

Lead the budget preparation process for the enterprise.

Compare sales and profit projections to actual figures and budgeted expenses to actual expenses; make or oversee any necessary adjustments to future projections and budgets.

Refine and implement forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to offer financial insights into the organization’s plans and operations

Cultivate strategic alliances with vendors and business partners. Ensure negotiated terms and conditions with customers and vendors benefit the company and conduct regular reviews for optimization

Study long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future growth in sales and market share.

 

Financial & Accounting Leadership

Serve as the executive sponsor for finance-driven enhancements to support data-driven decisions

Partner with IT to digitize and modernize financial & operational workflows for scalability and efficiency

Lead the finance & accounting function in alignment with our core values.

Bring focus and inspire the Team to row in the same direction. Develop, review and improve upon leading key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive successful outcomes.

Regularly review performance data, provide actionable insights, and hold your Team accountable.

Ensure finance and accounting teams are tech savvy with a commitment to streamlining processes

Ensure financial and tax strategy support the business strategy

Serve as a key leader in M&A activities including supervising due diligence, negotiating terms, overseeing legal documentation, and engaging across the enterprise to successfully integrate acquisitions.

Oversee investment of funds and work with investment bankers to raise additional capital required for expansion.

Serve as part of the 401(k) plan advisory committee

Risk Management & Compliance

Understand and mitigate key elements of the enterprise risk profile

Ensure the company maintains a balance book with the management of commodity price risk on inventory and fixed forward sales agreements

Review and ensure the proper implementation of internal controls to uphold financial integrity.

Collaborate with IT and team members to ensure financial system integrity, data security, and protection against cyber related financial crimes

Maintain appropriate property and casualty insurance

Active participation in the management and oversight of our insurance captive engagements, including periodic travel to captive related meetings as necessary

Serve as the financial advisor on all company contracts

Monitor all open legal issues

Ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements

Lead the audit functions and ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies

 

Reporting

Work with SLT and stakeholders to develop and deploy analytics dashboards to drive efficiency across the organization.

Deliver and present monthly financial reports by business unit in a timely and clear manner to ensure effective discussions of results.

Directs the accurate and timely preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.

Oversee and scrutinize all month-end closing activities.

Present financials to the Board of Directors

Ensure compliance with tax reporting

 

Expected Competencies

10+ years' experience of progressive financial leadership experience that includes experience in a senior executive role

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field. MBA, CPA, and/or CFA is highly desired

Expert industry knowledge of fuel and/or propane distribution

Experience in a full range of insurance markets, (health, workers comp, property and casualty, marine liability, etc.)

In-depth knowledge of corporate finance, accounting principles and regulatory requirements

Balanced leadership style that can move fluidly from the big picture to the details with a natural predisposition for digging into the details to ensure clarity

High ethical standards and a strong business acumen

Expert verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

Excellent relationship building skills internally and externally

Resilient and adaptable to change

Results oriented and highly organized
